Okay, so Smurfs on Game Boy is way more fun than I expected—it’s not just some lazy tie-in. You start off as Handy Smurf (or was it Brainy? I always mix them up) running through these bright, chunky pixel forests, jumping over mushrooms and dodging Gargamel’s weird cat-thing. The controls are simple, but some of those jumps? Brutal. Took me a few tries to nail the timing.
What’s cool is how each Smurf has their own little animations—like, Papa Smurf waddles when he walks, and it’s weirdly charming. The music’s got that classic bouncy Game Boy sound, too. Just don’t expect it to be easy—Gargamel’s traps get sneaky fast, and I definitely lost a few lives to random falling rocks. Still, it’s one of those games where you keep going just to see what dumb thing he’ll throw at you next.
If you grew up with the cartoon, it’s a nostalgia trip. If not, it’s still a solid little platformer with way more personality than most licensed games from that era. Just watch out for the bees. Seriously.
