So, Sangokushi on the Game Boy—basically a portable, stripped-down version of Koei’s classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy games. You’re thrown right into the chaos of ancient China, picking a warlord and trying to conquer the map through battles, diplomacy, and a whole lot of resource management. The sprites are tiny, and the menus are in Japanese (unless you’ve got a translation patch), but there’s something weirdly satisfying about micromanaging your little pixel armies.
At first, it feels overwhelming—like, why is Liu Bei’s morale dropping? Why are my troops starving? But once you get the hang of it, the simplicity works in its favor. No fancy cutscenes, just pure, old-school strategy. And yeah, the AI can be brutal—Cao Cao will absolutely wreck you if you’re not careful.
Definitely one for retro strategy fans who don’t mind squinting at kanji. It’s rough around the edges, but there’s charm in that.
