Saint Seiya - Ougon Densetsu on the Famicom is one of those sequels that actually builds on the first game instead of just rehashing it. You’ve got the same basic setup—Cosmo-powered knights beating the tar out of each other—but with way more characters and some surprisingly deep mechanics for an NES game.
First thing you’ll notice? The roster’s way bigger. Picking between Bronze, Silver, and Gold Saints actually feels meaningful now, and some of the later fights get brutal if you don’t manage your energy right. The sprites are still chunky 8-bit, but they nailed the anime’s dramatic poses—especially when someone pulls off a special move.
It’s Japan-only, so unless you’re fluent or playing with a guide, expect some menu fumbling. Still, if you’re into classic beat ‘em ups with a little more strategy than usual, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect the Gold Saints to go easy on you.
