Pokemon Ranger came out for the Nintendo DS in 2006, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. This isn't a turn-based battle; you have to circle them repeatedly while avoiding their attacks, which can break your line. You explore the world screen by screen, and the Pokemon you befriend aren't for your team, but are used as field abilities to clear obstacles like fallen trees or rivers. The pacing is steady, with the capture sequences becoming genuinely challenging against stronger Pokemon that fill the screen with hazards. It feels like a puzzle action game where your success depends entirely on the steadiness of your own hand.
