Pocket Sonar Game

Pocket Sonar is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow makes staring at a tiny monochrome screen feel like a deep-sea expedition. You're basically piloting this clunky submarine, pinging sonar waves to map out the ocean floor while dodging rocks and hunting for treasure chests. The controls take a minute to get used to—your sub turns in these stiff 90-degree angles—but once it clicks, you start seeing patterns in the terrain.
What I love is how the game messes with you. Sometimes the sonar reveals what looks like a clear path, only for you to bump into an invisible coral reef. Other times, you'll ping a suspiciously empty patch of water and suddenly a sunken galleon materializes. The sound design nails that eerie underwater vibe too, with these metallic pings echoing into silence.
It's not flashy, but there's something weirdly satisfying about methodically uncovering a whole wreck bit by bit. Just don't expect realism—half the "treasure" is giant rubies and golden anchors like some cartoon pirate's loot.
