Mystic Quest Legend (or Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest in the US) is that weird little SNES RPG that feels like someone took Final Fantasy and stripped it down to the basics. It was clearly made for beginners—battle menus practically hold your hand, dungeons are straightforward, and you don’t even have to worry about party members since it’s just you and the occasional guest fighter.
At first, I thought the simplicity would be boring, but there’s something oddly satisfying about how clean it is. The music slaps (seriously, that battle theme is a banger), and the weapon-switching mechanic keeps fights from feeling too repetitive. It’s not deep, but it’s got charm—like a Saturday morning cartoon version of an RPG.
Just don’t go in expecting a classic Final Fantasy experience. This is more like RPG training wheels, and honestly? That’s fine by me.
