Monster Max is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never got enough love. It's an isometric puzzler from Rare (yeah, the Donkey Kong Country guys), where you play as this kid who transforms into different monsters to solve puzzles. The perspective takes some getting used to—you're constantly tilting your head trying to figure out which way is up—but once it clicks, the puzzles get seriously clever.
Each monster form has its own quirks. The first one you get can smash through walls, which feels awesome until you realize you just trapped yourself in a corner. Later forms let you fly or swim, and figuring out when to switch is half the challenge. The music's got that classic Rare vibe too—catchy but slightly unsettling, like something's always creeping up behind you.
It's tougher than it looks, but in that satisfying way where you'll suddenly sit up at 2 AM going "OH, that's how you do it."
