Monster Farm Battle Card GB is one of those weird little Game Boy Color gems that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s a surprisingly deep card battler with a monster-raising twist. You start by picking a creature (I went with the wolf-looking one because, well, wolves are cool), then jump into turn-based duels where you’re slinging cards to attack, defend, or pull off special moves. The pixel art’s got that classic late-90s charm, and the strategy actually gets pretty intense once you unlock rarer cards.
What’s neat is how it blends monster training with deck-building—your creature’s stats affect your draws, so a beefed-up dragon might give you more fire cards, while a speedy imp leans toward quick strikes. Took me a few matches to stop getting wrecked by the CPU, but once you figure out combos, it’s weirdly addictive. Definitely a hidden pick for card-game fans who don’t mind some retro jank.
