Mike Tyson's Punch Out is one of those NES classics that looks simple at first—just dodge and punch, right? But man, those cartoonish boxers will wreck you if you don’t pay attention. Little Mac starts off fighting goofballs like Glass Joe (who goes down in one hit), but by the time you reach King Hippo or Bald Bull, you’ll be sweating. Their tells are subtle, and some barely telegraph their attacks at all.
The real fun (and frustration) comes from memorizing patterns. Tyson himself is brutal—blink and you’re knocked out. But once you learn the rhythm, it’s crazy satisfying to counter every hook and uppercut. The pixel art still holds up, too—every fighter has so much personality, from Don Flamenco’s dramatic poses to Soda Popinski’s creepy grin. Just don’t throw your controller when you get KO’d for the tenth time.
