Luigi Adventure 3 is one of those weird, obscure SNES gems that feels like stumbling into a secret level nobody told you about. You play as Luigi—no surprise there—but instead of the usual haunted mansions, you're dumped into this trippy "Phantasm World" full of floating islands, upside-down castles, and enemies that look like they escaped from a late-night anime.
The first thing you’ll notice? The controls are floatier than regular Mario games—Luigi slides a bit when he stops, and his jumps hang in the air just a second too long. Took me a couple of deaths to adjust, but once you get the rhythm, pulling off long leaps over bottomless pits feels oddly satisfying. Also, the puzzles? Some are straightforward block-pushing fare, but others make you stop and stare at the screen like, "Wait, how does this room even work?"
Graphically, it’s peak SNES—bright colors, weirdly detailed sprites for minor enemies, and backgrounds that shift between "cheerful" and "low-key unsettling." No idea if this was ever officially translated, but the fan version I played had this charmingly broken English that just added to the vibe. If you’re into offbeat platformers with a side of surreal, this one’s worth dusting off the emulator for.
