Lufia and the Fortress of Doom is one of those SNES RPGs that starts with a fake-out—you think you're playing as legendary hero Maxim, but nope, the real story kicks in a century later with his descendant and this mysterious girl Lufia. Classic JRPG setup, but the dungeons? Way more puzzle-heavy than your average Final Fantasy clone.
Combat's standard turn-based stuff (pick attacks, heal when you're almost dead, rinse repeat), but figuring out how to push blocks or light torches in the right order actually makes you stop and think. The music's got that nostalgic SNES charm too—haunting overworld themes, tense battle tracks. It's rough around the edges compared to its sequel, but there's something charming about its clunky sincerity.
Just don't expect the Sinistrals to stay defeated for long—they always come back, like uninvited party guests.
