King Neptune's Adventure (unl) Game

King Neptune's Adventure is one of those weird, obscure NES games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day. You play as—you guessed it—King Neptune, swimming through underwater levels while dodging jellyfish and collecting treasure. The controls are a little floaty, but once you get used to it, there's something oddly satisfying about weaving through coral reefs and outrunning sharks.
First thing you'll notice? The music. It's got this weirdly catchy chiptune track that sounds like someone tried to compose sea shanties for an 8-bit synth. The graphics are basic, but the color palette actually works—lots of blues and greens that make it feel like you're really underwater. Just don't expect any deep storytelling here. It's pure, simple arcade-style fun.
If you're into retro games that don't take themselves too seriously, this one's a quirky little time capsule. I still fire it up when I want something quick and mindless to play.
