About Kickle Cubicle
Kickle Cubicle came out in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Irem. It was part of that wave of later NES releases that often focused on clever, self-contained puzzle mechanics rather than sprawling adventures.
You control Kickle, a small character with the ability to freeze certain enemies into solid ice blocks using his cold breath. The main goal on each screen is to collect all the red dream bags while avoiding contact with enemies and hazards. You kick the frozen blocks across the grid-like levels to fill holes, create bridges, and clear paths to the bags. Another key action is creating temporary ice pillars, which act as stoppers to redirect your sliding blocks or to trap enemies. The game progresses through four distinct worlds, each with many boards, a boss, and a princess to rescue. The pacing is methodical, demanding careful planning with each move, and the difficulty builds steadily as new enemy types and environmental puzzles are introduced. It feels satisfying to finally see the solution click into place after a few failed attempts.
