Jimmy Connors Tennis on Game Boy is one of those early handheld sports games that somehow nails the simple joy of whacking a ball back and forth. The controls are basic—just A for lobs and B for regular shots—but timing matters way more than you’d think. Miss by a split second, and your return ends up in the net.
Matches are quick, which is great for short bursts, but the real challenge kicks in during tournaments. The AI isn’t brutal, but it’s sneaky—some opponents love drop shots, others just hammer the ball at you. I remember losing a few times before figuring out how to adjust my positioning.
Visually, it’s pure Game Boy: chunky sprites, a tiny court, and that satisfying little "thwack" sound when you nail a shot. Not exactly a deep sim, but it’s weirdly addictive once you get into a rhythm. If you’ve got a soft spot for retro sports games, this one’s a solid serve.
