Jelly Boy is one of those weird little Game Boy platformers that never made it outside Europe—which is a shame, because it’s got this bizarre charm to it. You play as this stretchy, jelly-like dude who can bounce around levels, sticking to walls and ceilings like some kind of sentient gummy bear. The physics feel janky at first, but once you get the hang of flinging yourself around, it’s oddly satisfying.
The levels are packed with hazards—spikes, lava, the usual stuff—but the real fun comes from figuring out how to use your squishy body to squeeze through tight spots or bounce just right to reach hidden areas. Some of the later stages get seriously tricky, especially when the screen starts auto-scrolling and you’re scrambling not to get left behind. It’s not the most polished game out there, but there’s something about the weirdness that sticks with you. Definitely a hidden gem if you’re into offbeat platformers.
