Ikari No Yousai is one of those Game Boy games that looks simple at first—just a little dude running through pixelated corridors—but then suddenly you're sweating over spike traps, dodging patrolling enemies, and trying to remember which door you came through five minutes ago. The maze design is brutal in the best way, like someone took a classic dungeon crawler and distilled it into pure "aha!" moments and "oh no" deaths.
What really gets me is how smart the traps are. You'll push a block thinking you're clever, only to realize you just cut off your only escape route. And the enemies? They don't just chase you—they herd you. First time I played, I got cornered by two knights while a third casually strolled up behind me. Rude.
It's got that perfect retro balance: tough but fair, simple to pick up, impossible to put down once you're in the zone. If you like games where you mutter "just one more try" at 2 AM, this one's got your name on it.
