Ikari III: The Rescue is the NES sequel to those old-school top-down run-and-gun games where you mow down waves of soldiers as a lone commando. It’s got the same basic setup as the first two—twin-stick shooting (well, as much as the NES controller allows), grenade throws, and a whole lot of enemies charging at you.
This one mixes things up with some driving sections where you hop into a jeep or tank, which sounds cool but honestly feels a bit clunky. The overhead shooting parts are still solid though—just expect to die a lot unless you’ve got quick reflexes. The music’s got that classic SNK arcade vibe, which is probably the best part.
If you’re into retro shooters, it’s a decent time, but don’t expect it to blow your mind.
