Hydlide 3 is the weird, Japan-only sequel to T&E Soft's cult classic action RPG series. You're basically tossed into a dark fantasy world with that classic NES jank—awkward hit detection, cryptic progression, and a soundtrack that somehow loops in your head for days. At first glance, it feels like a clunkier Zelda, but there's something oddly charming about its rough edges.
You start off with a sword and zero direction, hacking at slimes and bats while trying to figure out where the heck you're supposed to go. The magic system’s a mess (good luck deciphering those spell names), but once you get the hang of it, there’s a weird satisfaction in stumbling through its quirks. Just don’t expect any hand-holding—this is the kind of game where you’ll wander into a cave and get wrecked by enemies five levels above you.
If you’re into obscure, janky retro RPGs with more ambition than polish, this one’s a curious time capsule. Just bring a walkthrough.
