Okay, so Home Alone 2: Lost in New York on NES is one of those weird licensed games that kinda does its own thing. Yeah, it follows the movie’s plot—Kevin’s stranded in New York, the Wet Bandits are after him—but then it throws in random enemies and weapons that definitely weren’t in the film. Like, why is there a guy in a trenchcoat throwing knives at you in Central Park? No idea, but it works.
The best part? You get to set up traps just like in the movies, but here it’s way more involved. You’ve gotta lure Marv and Harry into specific spots to unlock doors, which feels oddly satisfying when it works. And the Bird Woman? She’s basically a boss fight, pelting you with birdseed like some kind of deranged pigeon warlord. Also, the sound effects are straight out of early Simpsons games, which is either nostalgic or deeply confusing, depending on how much 90s Konami you’ve played.
It’s janky, it’s chaotic, and it makes zero sense at times—but that’s half the charm. If you’re into weird retro movie tie-ins, this one’s a trip.
