Hayauchi Super Igo is one of those old-school NES games that flew under the radar outside Japan. It's basically Go—you know, the ancient black-and-white stone strategy game—but with a few tweaks to make it work on the Famicom. The AI isn't half bad for an '89 release, though it definitely has that classic "cheating computer opponent" vibe when you start winning too easily.

What's cool is how they tried to make Go feel snappy on a controller. You move a cursor around the grid, dropping stones with the A button, and there's even a timer if you want to crank up the pressure. First time I played, I got wrecked in like five moves because I forgot how brutal Go can be when you're rusty. Still, it's weirdly satisfying once you get into the rhythm of it.

Not gonna lie, the presentation is barebones—just a grid and some chiptune plinks when you place stones—but if you're into abstract strategy, it's a neat time capsule. Just don't expect flashy animations or hand-holding tutorials.
