About Gyrodine (japan)
Gyrodine came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, a Japan only release from the developer Crux. It was part of that early wave of NES games, straightforward arcade style action you could play at home.
You pilot a small helicopter, moving it up the screen through different environments. Your main goal is to survive as long as possible, shooting down enemy planes and ground targets while dodging their return fire. The helicopter has a unique movement feel; it drifts a bit after you change direction, so you have to plan your moves to avoid crashing into the landscape or enemies. You collect power ups that change your weapon, like switching to a wider spread shot. The game gets faster and more crowded with enemies the longer you last, making it a tough challenge to see how far you can get. It feels like a constant, hectic scramble for position.
