Goonies II on NES is one of those weirdly ambitious sequels—half side-scrolling action, half first-person dungeon crawling. You start as Mikey, swinging a yo-yo (yes, a yo-yo) at bats and pirates while hunting for clues to rescue your friends. The overworld’s straightforward, but then you’ll hit these maze-like first-person sections where you’re poking at walls for hidden doors. Feels janky at first, but there’s something oddly satisfying about stumbling onto a new item or path.
Also, the soundtrack slaps—that underground theme still gets stuck in my head. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand; you’ll be scribbling maps or brute-forcing your way through some parts. It’s messy, but in a way that makes beating it feel like an actual achievement.
