Gauntlet on NES is one of those classic dungeon crawlers where you pick either the warrior or the valkyrie (yeah, the other two heroes didn’t make the cut) and just start hacking through waves of ghosts, grunts, and those annoying little demons that spawn endlessly. The whole thing feels like a race against your own health bar—food restores it, but it ticks down constantly, so you’re always scrambling for the next chicken leg or potion.
Morak’s lair is packed with maze-like floors, hidden rooms, and treasure chests that might give you gold or just explode in your face. The controls are simple—walk, shoot, and pray you don’t get cornered—but the real challenge is managing your resources. I always end up burning through magic potions way too fast trying to clear a room full of skeletons.
It’s old-school tough, but there’s something satisfying about clearing a floor and hearing that little victory jingle before diving deeper into the chaos.
