Gauntlet II on Game Boy is one of those old-school dungeon crawlers that somehow still holds up. You pick your hero—warrior, wizard, elf, or valkyrie—and immediately get thrown into maze after maze, slashing ghosts, goblins, and those annoying little things that just keep respawning. The controls are simple, but don’t let that fool you—you’ll be frantically tapping buttons when a swarm of enemies corners you.
It’s got that classic arcade feel where you’re constantly hunting for food (because yes, your health ticks down even when you’re just standing there) and trying not to get lost in identical-looking corridors. The Game Boy’s tiny screen makes it even more chaotic, in a fun way. If you played this back in the day, it’s pure nostalgia. If not, it’s a solid way to see what dungeon crawling used to be like before fancy graphics took over.
Just don’t expect a deep story—this is all about surviving as long as possible with a buddy or going solo until you run out of quarters… or in this case, patience.
