So Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak is one of those late-era NES games that actually holds up pretty well. You start off with Fred and Barney—because of course a pterodactyl had to kidnap Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm—and you’re jumping, clubbing, and slinging your way through these weirdly charming prehistoric levels.
At first, I kept forgetting to switch between Fred (club) and Barney (sling), but once you get the hang of it, swapping between them actually makes combat way smoother. The power-ups help too—nothing like watching Fred’s club suddenly have this ridiculous reach. And yeah, the bonus rounds are these goofy little sports mini-games that feel totally random but weirdly fit the Flintstones vibe.
It’s not the hardest game, but the levels have enough variety to keep you moving. Also, the fact that it’s a Flintstones game where you’re actually fighting dinosaurs instead of just working at the quarry? Big win. Definitely a solid pick if you’re into retro platformers with some personality.
