Okay, so Flintstones: Rescue of Dino & Hoppy is one of those NES games that looks way more cheerful than it actually is. You play as Fred, stumbling through 45 levels of weirdly tough platforming—jumping on dinosaurs, dodging falling rocks, and occasionally hopping into the Flintmobile for some side-scrolling driving chaos. The movie tie-in means everything’s bright and cartoony, but don’t let that fool you—some of these jumps are brutal.
At first, I thought it’d be a breezy kid’s game, but nope. You’ve got to rescue Dino and Hoppy from this villain named Cliff Vandercave (great name, by the way), and the levels just keep throwing weird obstacles at you. One minute you’re bouncing on pterodactyls, the next you’re trying not to get crushed by a rolling egg. The Flintmobile sections are a nice break, though—until you realize steering that thing is its own kind of nightmare.
It’s got that classic NES charm, but be ready for some frustration. Still, if you grew up with the Flintstones or just love weird retro platformers, it’s worth a shot. Just don’t blame me when you get stuck on Level 12.
