Feda: The Emblem of Justice is one of those hidden SNES gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s basically Nintendo’s take on Shining Force, but with its own flavor. You’ve got grid-based battles, a ragtag group of rebels fighting against an empire, and that classic mid-90s anime aesthetic. The sprites are chunky and expressive, and the music has that unmistakable Super Famicom charm.
At first glance, it feels familiar if you’ve played other tactical RPGs, but Feda does a few things differently. Your party members actually talk to each other between fights, and their relationships affect how they perform in battle—like, if two characters bond, they’ll cover each other more often. The terrain matters too, with elevation playing a bigger role than in most games of this era. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand; some of those later maps will wreck you if you rush in blindly.
It’s not perfect—the menus can feel a little clunky, and the difficulty spikes hard in spots—but there’s something really satisfying about how it all comes together. If you’re into retro strategy RPGs, this one’s worth digging up.
