Fatal Fury 2 on SNES is one of those fighting games that just feels right—like the arcade cabinet version, but without needing a pocket full of quarters. The moment you pick Terry or Mai (let’s be honest, everyone picks Mai first), you’re thrown into these tight, fast-paced fights where timing matters way more than button-mashing.
The backgrounds are surprisingly lively for a 16-bit game—crowds cheer, neon signs flicker, and some stages even have hazards that’ll knock you flat if you’re not careful. The special moves take a second to get used to (good luck nailing Terry’s Power Wave on your first try), but once you do, pulling off a combo feels stupidly satisfying.
It’s not perfect—some characters feel way stronger than others, and the AI can be brutal—but that’s part of the charm. Grab a friend, pick opposite ends of the roster, and see who’s secretly been practicing their Geese Howard impressions. This is peak ’90s fighting nostalgia.
