F1 Pole Position on the Game Boy is one of those early racing games that feels janky now but was kinda mind-blowing at the time. You’ve got these tiny, blocky cars zipping around tracks that all sort of blend together after a while, but the handling’s weirdly satisfying once you get used to it. The AI drivers don’t exactly put up a fight—half the time they’re just bumping into walls—but nailing a tight corner at full speed still gives you that old-school arcade rush.
It’s definitely a product of its era: no flashy graphics, no career mode, just straight-up races where you’re basically competing against the clock. The music’s this repetitive bleep-bloop track that either gets stuck in your head or makes you mute the sound after five minutes. Still, there’s something charming about how simple it is. If you’re into retro racers, it’s a neat little time capsule.
