About Dragon Warrior
Dragon Warrior came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, published by Enix. It was one of the first big role playing games on the console, a time when you mostly had cartridges with simpler action games. This one felt different right from the start, with its own pace and a world that unfolded slowly.
You control a lone hero on a quest to defeat the Dragonlord and rescue the princess. You explore the land screen by screen, fighting monsters in turn based battles to gain gold and experience. A major part of the game is talking to every person in every town to find clues, then using those clues to delve into dungeons and find key items. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is significant, especially when you venture into new areas unprepared. It feels like a quiet, personal journey where every level gained and every new spell learned is a hard won achievement.
