Dragon Quest III on SNES is one of those RPGs that just feels right—like digging into a warm bowl of comfort food from your childhood. You start by rolling your own party (I always go with a warrior, priest, and mage because I’m basic), and within minutes you’re out in the world getting wrecked by slimes if you wander too far. The pixel art has this cozy, storybook charm, and the music? Absolute earworms.
What surprised me is how open it feels for a game this old. You get a ship eventually and can just... sail off to new continents whenever. The job system lets you reclass characters later, which I totally botched my first time (turning my warrior into a goofy jester was a mistake). It’s got that classic grind, but in a way where every level-up actually matters. If you’ve ever wondered where modern RPGs got their DNA, this is one of the OGs.
