Dr. Franken is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that sticks with you. You play as Franky, this lanky, stitched-together guy who’s desperately trying to piece his girlfriend Bitsy back together—literally. The whole thing’s got this gothic-but-goofy vibe, like a Tim Burton sketch come to life.
You’re jumping between platforms, dodging bats and weird lab experiments gone wrong, all while hunting down Bitsy’s missing body parts. Some are hidden in obvious spots, others take a bit of poking around—I remember getting stuck on one level because I didn’t realize you could knock down a certain wall. The machine at the end is this janky-looking contraption where you slot everything together, and watching it all come to life is equal parts creepy and charming.
It’s short, a little clunky by today’s standards, but there’s something oddly endearing about it. If you dig offbeat platformers with a dark sense of humor, this one’s worth digging up.
