Man, playing Donkey Kong Country on the Game Boy Color takes me back. The colors pop way more than you’d expect from that little screen—jungle greens, barrel browns, and Donkey Kong’s fur actually looking kinda detailed. It’s still the same classic platforming, but condensed just right for handheld.
You start off bouncing on those first few enemies, grabbing bananas like they’re gold coins, and then bam—suddenly you’re timing jumps over pits while some crocodile goon chucks barrels at you. The controls feel tight, though I still mess up the roll-jump combo more than I’d like to admit. And that minecart level? Just as chaotic as I remembered.
If you’ve played the SNES version, it’s wild how much they squeezed in here. Not just a lazy port—they rebuilt it for the GBC and somehow kept the charm. Cranky Kong still talks trash, the music’s got that bouncy vibe, and King K. Rool’s just waiting to ruin your day. Perfect for bus rides or pretending to be productive.
