Donkey Kong 3 came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1983, developed and published by Nintendo. It was part of that early wave of NES games, a time when arcade style action was being translated directly to the home console. This one always stood out to me because it felt so different from the first two Donkey Kong games; it dropped the platforming entirely for something closer to a fixed screen shooter.

You control Stanley the Bugman, an exterminator. Your goal is to protect two flowers at the bottom of the screen from Donkey Kong, who is climbing on vines above. Donkey Kong shakes bees down toward your plants, and if they reach the blooms, the plants wilt. You move Stanley left and right along the bottom, aiming a spray gun upward. You can shoot insecticide to eliminate the bees and also hit Donkey Kong directly, forcing him to climb higher until he eventually leaves the screen. The key mechanics are managing your spray's limited vertical range, dodging falling enemies, and constantly pressuring DK upward before your flowers are destroyed. It is a fast, tense game that gets difficult quickly as the screen fills with more aggressive insects. Playing it feels like a frantic race against a very persistent gorilla.
