About Deblock (japan)
Deblock was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan, though it never saw a release in other regions. It was published by SOFEL, a company that brought a number of titles to the NES. This puzzle game arrived during a period when the console's library was expanding with many different genres, offering an alternative to the more common action and platforming games.
You control a cursor that picks up and places colored blocks onto a central stack. The main objective is to match four or more blocks of the same color in a row, either horizontally or vertically, to clear them from the playfield and prevent the stack from reaching the top. A key mechanic is the ability to rotate your view of the stack, allowing you to place blocks on any of its four sides. This rotational element forces you to constantly reassess the puzzle from different angles. The game starts calmly but the stack rises steadily, creating a quiet tension as you search for the best placement. It feels like a deliberate, spatial challenge that requires you to think in three dimensions even on a two-dimensional screen.
