Daikaijuu Monogatari is one of those weird, charming Game Boy RPGs that never made it outside Japan. You start off in this post-apocalyptic world where giant monsters roam, and somehow you're supposed to tame them? The pixel art's surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy title—those kaiju sprites actually look intimidating when they fill half the screen.
Combat's turn-based but with a twist: you can either fight normally or try to "negotiate" with monsters to recruit them. First time I played, I wasted like 20 minutes trying to befriend what turned out to be an angry radioactive turtle. The Zone mechanic keeps battles unpredictable too—sometimes the environment just randomly buffs or wrecks your team mid-fight.
It's janky in that very 90s JRPG way (good luck figuring out some mechanics without a guide), but there's something special about building a team of misfit kaiju. Just don't expect a smooth localization—menus are pure kanji chaos.
