Cool World on SNES is one of those weird, fever-dream platformers that somehow works. You start off in this neon-drenched city where cartoon characters keep popping out of nowhere—one minute you're jumping on rooftops, the next you're dodging some grinning gremlin thing that definitely wasn't there before.
The controls take a second to get used to—your character slides a bit when you stop running, which threw me off at first. But once you adjust, there's something satisfying about the way you bounce between platforms, especially when the perspective suddenly shifts to this forced 3D effect (pretty wild for a 16-bit game).
Some of the puzzles are legit head-scratchers. I remember getting stuck in this casino level for way too long because I didn't realize you could interact with certain background objects. The whole thing has this chaotic energy, like the developers threw every weird idea they had into one cartridge. It's janky in places, but that's part of the charm.
If you're into retro games that don't play it safe, this one's a trip.
