Play Cool World Online

Cool World came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, published by Ocean Software. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the look of the film, in this case Ralph Bakshi's animated feature. You saw a lot of these licensed games on the SNES, and they always had a specific feel; this one was no different, aiming to translate a surreal cartoon universe into a side scrolling action game.

You control the human detective Frank Harris, navigating through the animated Cool World to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend. The game plays out screen by screen, with you punching and kicking a variety of cartoonish enemies that bounce back if you don't take them out quickly. Your main goal is to progress through the levels, finding keys to unlock doors and ultimately defeat the antagonist, Holli Would. The pacing can feel uneven, with some sections demanding precise jumps and others throwing large groups of enemies at you. It's a challenging game that doesn't always explain its rules, leaving you to figure out the patterns through repetition. Playing it feels like wrestling with a stubborn, colorful cartoon that doesn't want to let you win easily.
