Clay Fighter on SNES is one of those weird, wonderful fighting games that makes absolutely no sense—and that’s why it rules. You pick from a roster of lumpy clay characters like a deranged snowman or a stretchy blue blob, then mash buttons in arenas that feel like they were designed by a sugar-high kid. The animations are janky in the best way, with punches that look like they’re moving through molasses and special moves that’ll make you laugh mid-combo.
It’s not exactly Street Fighter—more like if someone molded a fighting game out of Play-Doh and bad puns. The hazards in stages are ridiculous (watch out for that flying toilet), and half the fun is just seeing what bizarre nonsense happens when you hit someone hard enough. Not the most balanced fighter, but who cares when you’re uppercutting a sentient pile of goo?
If you’re into retro fighters with personality over polish, this one’s a riot.
