Chalvo 55 is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame because it’s a bizarrely fun mix of puzzle-solving and action. You control this bouncing ball robot (Chalvo, I guess?) that can morph into different shapes to navigate levels, crush enemies, and solve block-pushing puzzles. The physics feel oddly satisfying when you nail a tricky bounce just right.
At first, I thought it was just another puzzle game, but there’s this weird urgency to it—enemies keep spawning, and if you take too long, the screen starts filling up with blocks. Messing around with Chalvo’s transformations is the best part—rolling into a ball for speed, flattening to slip under gaps, or stretching vertically to reach higher platforms. It’s got that classic Game Boy charm where the concept is simple but surprisingly deep once you get into it.
Definitely worth a look if you’re into retro oddities or just want something different from the usual Tetris clones.
