Caveman Games is one of those weird, janky NES sports titles that somehow works because it doesn’t take itself seriously. You’ve got your standard Olympic-style events—sprinting, swimming, fire starting—except everything’s been given a caveman makeover. Instead of hurdles, you’re dodging pterodactyls. Instead of a javelin, you’re chucking a bone. And yeah, the controls are as clunky as you’d expect from an NES track-and-field knockoff, but that’s half the charm.

First time I played, I thought the sprint was just button-mashing until my caveman ate dirt because a mammoth decided to wander onto the track. Turns out timing matters more than speed. The fire-starting mini-game? Pure chaos—rub two sticks together while avoiding sabertooth tigers. It’s ridiculous, but in that way where you keep playing just to see what absurd thing happens next.

Not gonna lie, the graphics are rough even for NES standards, and some events feel borderline unfair. But if you’re into goofy retro sports games with a side of dinosaur-related disasters, this one’s a weird little time capsule.
