Captain Tsubasa V on SNES is basically anime soccer cranked up to 11. You start off picking your team—I always go for Tsubasa because that Rising Shot is just unfair—and then it’s straight into matches where players literally leave flaming trails behind the ball when they shoot. The RPG elements sneak up on you too; between games, you’re managing stamina and unlocking new super moves that look like they belong in Dragon Ball.
What’s wild is how over-the-top everything feels. Slide tackles send opponents flying, goalkeepers do backflips to stop shots, and the announcer loses his mind in Japanese the whole time. It’s janky in that classic 16-bit way—sometimes the ball physics make no sense—but that’s part of the charm. If you ever wanted to recreate those ridiculous manga panels where someone kicks the ball hard enough to break the net, this is your game.
Just don’t expect FIFA. This is pure arcade chaos with a side of nostalgia.
