About Cabal
Cabal came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by TAD Corporation. It was part of that wave of arcade ports that tried to capture the feel of the cabinet experience on the home console, a straightforward action game from an era full of them.
You control a lone soldier viewed from behind, moving a crosshair to shoot enemy soldiers who pop up from cover. Your main goal is to clear each stage by eliminating all the enemies while dodging their returning fire. The signature mechanics involve sidestepping left and right to avoid bullets and ducking behind destructible barriers that get shot to pieces. The pacing is relentless; you are constantly tracking multiple targets and managing your limited cover. It feels like a tense, quick reaction test where a single mistake can end your run.
