Bonk’s Revenge on Game Boy is one of those weird, charming platformers that just feels like the '90s. You play as this big-headed caveman who smashes everything with his forehead—blocks, enemies, even the occasional power-up that turns him into a wrecking ball. The first level throws you right into it: hopping across floating islands, dodging pterodactyls, and bonking so many goofy-looking dinosaurs that it never gets old.
What I love is how weighty the headbutts feel—there’s a real crunch to them, and the controls are simple but tight. The levels get surprisingly creative later on, with stuff like ice caves where you slide around or underwater sections where you’re dodging jellyfish. And yeah, the story’s just an excuse to bonk things (something about rescuing a princess?), but who cares when the gameplay’s this satisfying? It’s a solid sequel that doesn’t overcomplicate the original’s formula.
If you’ve got a soft spot for retro platformers with personality, this one’s a blast.
