About Battle City
Battle City came out in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Namco. It was one of many straightforward action games on the platform, built around a clear, single screen concept.
You control a small green tank from a top down perspective. Your main goal is to defend your base, an eagle symbol at the bottom of the screen, from waves of enemy tanks. You move in four directions and fire bullets to destroy these enemies as they appear from the top of the screen. Signature mechanics include breaking the brick walls that form the level's maze to create new paths, and collecting power up icons that appear from destroying certain tanks to temporarily upgrade your tank's speed or firepower. The game is fast paced and gets difficult quickly, with later levels introducing more resilient and aggressive enemy tanks. It feels tense and focused, demanding quick reflexes and smart positioning to survive.
