Batman Returns on NES is one of those classic beat 'em ups that feels both familiar and frustrating in the best way. You’re thrown right into Gotham’s grimy streets, punching clown-faced thugs who just keep coming—seriously, where do they even find these guys? The batarang is your best friend here, especially when you’re swarmed, but good luck landing a clean hit with the NES’s janky aiming.
Each level mirrors a scene from the movie, ending with a boss fight that’ll test your patience. Penguin’s umbrella charge is annoying as hell, and Catwoman’s jumps feel borderline unfair. Still, there’s something satisfying about finally taking them down after your fifth try. Just don’t expect the controls to do you any favors.
It’s not the smoothest Batman game out there, but if you grew up with it, the nostalgia hits hard. You’ll probably mutter "cheap shot" at least once per playthrough.
