Batman on NES is one of those rare movie tie-ins that actually holds up. Sunsoft nailed the dark, moody vibe of Tim Burton's Gotham—you're swinging between neon-lit rooftops, punching thugs in alleys, and dodging Joker's ridiculous projectile laughs. The controls feel tight, and Batman moves with this satisfying weight, especially when you nail a perfect wall jump (which, by the way, is way harder than it looks).
First level throws you right into it: you’re scaling buildings, getting ambushed by guys with knives, and figuring out the weirdly specific timing for your batarang throws. The music? Absolute banger—that 8-bit rendition of the movie theme sticks in your head for days. Just don’t get too cocky—this game gets brutal fast, and those sewer levels with the instant-kill spikes? Yeah, good luck.
Still, it’s one of the better NES action-platformers out there, even if you’ll curse the Joker’s final boss fight at least once.
