Bashi Bazook - Morphoid Masher (proto) Game

Bashi Bazook - Morphoid Masher is one of those weird, forgotten NES prototypes that never got a full release—which is a shame, because it’s actually kind of a blast. You play as this little alien dude with a morphing gun that lets you absorb enemy abilities, turning into them mid-fight. One second you’re blasting away, the next you’re a floating eyeball spitting fireballs. Controls are a little stiff (it is an NES game), but once you get the hang of it, the morphing mechanic makes every enemy encounter feel like a puzzle.
The levels are short and chaotic, packed with bizarre enemies that look like they escaped from a late-night cartoon. I kept getting wrecked by these bouncing mushroom things until I realized I could steal their bounce attack. Classic NES jank, but in a way that makes you want to push through. If you’re into obscure retro stuff, this one’s worth firing up just to see what could’ve been.
