Bard's Tale II on NES is one of those old-school dungeon crawlers where you spend half your time scribbling maps on graph paper—no joke, the game expects you to keep track of every twist and turn. You roll up a party of fighters, mages, and thieves (or go full bard squad if you're feeling chaotic) and crawl through six cities packed with traps, riddles, and monsters that'll wreck you if you're not careful.
The big gimmick this time? You're hunting down pieces of the Destiny Wand while Lagoth Zanta, the resident evil archmage, keeps tossing nonsense your way. Combat's still that classic first-person grid, but they tweaked the spell system so magic actually feels useful now instead of just spamming "Fireball" all day. Just don't expect hand-holding—half the fun is bashing your head against some obscure puzzle until it clicks.
Also, the Japanese version has this weirdly catchy overworld theme that somehow makes grinding for gold slightly less painful.
