Athena No Hatena is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow blends Greek mythology with Zelda-style puzzling—and it kinda works. You play as Athena (yes, the Athena), wandering through these blocky, maze-like temples where half the challenge is figuring out what the heck you’re even supposed to do next. The puzzles start simple—push a block here, hit a switch there—but they get sneaky fast.
The pixel art has that classic Game Boy charm, all greens and grays, and Athena’s sprite actually looks pretty regal for something made of 16x16 squares. Combat’s basic but satisfying—you’ve got a sword, some magic, and the occasional “oh crap” moment when enemies corner you. What stuck with me, though, were the puzzles. Some solutions feel downright unfair until you realize the answer was staring at you the whole time.
If you’re into retro games that make you scratch your head (in a good way), this one’s worth dusting off the old cartridge for.
