Astro Fang SuperMachine is one of those weird, janky NES games that somehow sticks with you. You pilot this clunky mech—half tank, half robot—through side-scrolling levels blasting aliens that look like they were designed by someone who just discovered neon colors. The controls take a second to get used to (why does jumping feel so heavy?), but once you adjust, there's something satisfying about plowing through waves of enemies with your oversized cannon.

First level throws you right into it—no tutorial, just a quick scroll of the screen to show you the basics before the aliens start swarming. The music’s got that classic NES synth vibe, all bleeps and bloops that somehow make the action feel more intense. And yeah, the difficulty spikes hard around level 3, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll probably die a lot before figuring out the boss patterns.

It’s not perfect, but if you’re into retro mech shooters with personality, this one’s worth a few playthroughs.
